Adolescents have the reputation for being surly
uncommunicative, moody, argumentative and flippant sometimes all the same time!
These behaviors, when exhibited from time to time, may be normal for teens
because being a teen is a tough. Adolescence
is a time for developing independence. Typically adolescence exercises their
independence by questioning, and sometimes breaking, rules.
Parents are often worried or confused by changes in their teenagers;
the following information should help parents understand this phase of
development.
- Exploring and trying new things as he/she explores new identities.
- Adolescence bring a change in a person’s way of thinking.
- Intellectual development takes place and they spend considerable time in thinking.
- Increasing skills in some areas as he/she begins doing new things.
- Moodiness.
- Mental and physical changes taking place during adolescence cause mood changes.
- Realization that parents are not perfect; identification of their faults.
- Adolescents want to be independent.
- Complaints that parents interfere with independence
- Mostly interested in present, with limited thought of the future.
- Greater ability to do work (physical, mental, emotional).
- They find a way recognize and manage their emotions.
- Sometimes, an adolescents may feel insure while trying to adjust to the changes in the body and mind.
- Girls develop physically sooner than boys.
- Maturity in adolescents makes boys and girls interested in the opposite sex.
- Concerns regarding physical and sexual attractiveness to others.
- Frequently changing relationships.
- Development of ideals and section of future role models.
- Experimentation with sex and drugs (cigaretles,alcohol,and marijuana)
