Corona viruses are a large family of viruses which may cause
illness in animals or humans. The virus is named after its shape which takes
the form of a crown with protrusions around it and hence is what a corona virus
known as corona virus.
The health ministry has confirmed 18,985 cases of COVID-19
in India and 603 deaths so far the disease has already claimed over 169,000
lives globally and infected close to 2,500,000 worldwide.
A new kind of corona virus discovered late last year in
central china has now spread with ruthless speed to every continent on earth
except Antarctica. It has killed tens of thousands disrupted daily life in ways
that would have seemed unthinkable at
the start of the new year, and now poses dire threat to health of the word
economy.
Over the past 70 years, scientists have found that corona
viruses can infect mice, rats, dogs, cats, turkeys, horses, pigs, and cattle. Sometimes,
these animals can transmit corona viruses to human. Most recently, authorities identified
a new corona virus outbreak in china that has now reached other countries:
COVID-19.
Authorities first identified the virus in Wuhan, china.
Since then, the virus has spread to nearly every country,
leading the world health organization (who) to declare this as a pandemic.
The first people with COVID-19 had links to an animal and
seafood market. This suggested that animals initially transmitted the virus to
humans. However, people with a more recent diagnosis had no connections with or
exposure to the market, confirming that humans can pass the virus to each
other.
