HISTORY OF MOTHERS DAY

Mother’s day is a day for many to show their appreciation of the figures of mothers and moms all over the world. This is an annual program, but based on the country, the calendar is conducted in different dates.

The celebration of mothers and motherhood can be traced to the ancient Greeks and Romans who organized festivals in honors of mother goddess Rhea and Cybele but the most obvious modern example for her day is the early Christian festival knows as “mothering Sunday".

Once following a major tradition in parts of the United Kingdom and Europe the festival took place on the fourth Sunday at lent, and was originally seen as a time when the faithful returned to their “maternal church” in the main church around their home for a particular service.

Over time mothering Sunday tradition shifted to a more secular holiday, and children will present their mothers with flowers and others tokens of praise. Before the advent of the us mother’s day in the 1930 and 1940, the practice eventually became popular.

Anna Jarvis from Philadelphia, whose mother organized a group of women to promote friendship and health, heralded a mother’s day. On 12 may 1907, her organized a memorial service at the church of this late mother in Grafton West Virginia. Within about five years, almost every state way to witness the day, and in 1914 the American president. Woodrow Wilson made it national holiday. Though Jarvis had propagated white carnation as a tribute to one’s mother, the custom of wearing a red or pink carnation was developed to represent a white carnation for a living mother or a dead mother. Over time the day was expanded, including others, such as grandmother and aunt, who played maternal roles. It was basically a day of honor linked with sending and gifting CARDS, however and in opposition Jarvis spent the last years of the his life trying to put an end to the vacation that they had  brought into existence. The last of them.
